Hi, I am Padma

A Balkan-born recipe creator who has been living the vegan lifestyle for over ten years. What started as a personal journey a decade ago has grown into a celebration of vibrant plant-based cuisine infused with the flavors and traditions of my Balkan heritage.

Growing up in the Balkans, I spent countless afternoons in my grandmother’s kitchen learning to cook by feel, no written recipes, just intuition, love, and the finest local ingredients from our garden. Those early lessons taught me to honor simple, wholesome food and inspired me to reimagine traditional Balkan dishes in a fully plant-based way.

My Story

Ten years ago, I faced a health crisis that made my life feel unbearable. Every meal left me bloated and in pain, as if my own body was working against me. For six long months, I searched desperately for a solution, trying everything to regain control over my health and my life.

I visited countless doctors, underwent endless tests, but no one could pinpoint the cause. Frustrated but determined, I began researching diets that might help. I tried going gluten-free and lactose-free for six months, but nothing worked. Exhausted and at a crossroads, I decided to take a short vacation—to rest, recharge, and think about my next step.

And it was on that trip, while eating a simple piece of meat, that a thought struck me: “This will be the last piece of meat I will ever eat.” I didn’t understand why it came to me, but it sparked a journey that would completely transform my life. When I returned home, I started researching how to go vegan.

The first step was watching three documentaries: Earthlings, Cowspiracy, and Forks Over Knives. I watched them all in one night—and by the end, I knew: I would never consume meat or animal products again. That night marked the beginning of a new life—not only for my health but for my conscience.

Earthlings hit me hardest. Witnessing the suffering inflicted on animals just for food or products shook me to my core. In that moment, I realized I could no longer be part of the violence in the world. I made a vow to live compassionately, to help animals, to protect the planet, and to live in alignment with my values.

This journey gave me purpose. It ignited a desire to make a positive impact—for people, for animals, for the Earth. Going vegan didn’t just change my diet; it transformed who I am. It inspired me to become a better person, more mindful, more intentional, and more connected to life itself.

As for my health, it flourished. By switching to a plant-based diet and incorporating daily meditation, my body healed. Years of unhealthy habits and stress melted away.

Ten years later, I feel strong, vibrant, and fully alive. I share my story to encourage everyone reading this to live a life of compassion, non-violence, and self-connection. Change is possible—and it starts with a single, conscious choice.
